President Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene have escalated a very public feud that has spilled onto social platforms and into the party’s primary politics, with the president labeling Greene a traitor, Greene warning that the label has led to threats, and Trump signaling he may back a primary challenger while withdrawing his endorsement.

In a recent Truth Social message, the president delivered a blunt rebuke aimed squarely at Greene, turning up the heat in a feud that has drawn national attention and partisan debate. He wrote, “Wacky Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Brown (Remember, Green turns to Brown where there is ROT involved!) is working overtime to try and portray herself as a victim when, in actuality, she is the cause of all of her own problems. The fact is, nobody cares about this Traitor to our Country!” and has repeated similar criticisms in follow-up posts.

Greene struck back, warning that the president’s words have consequences beyond rhetoric and arguing that they embolden dangerous actors. “The hoax pizza deliveries have started now, to my house and my family members. Update: we also received a pipe bomb threat on my construction companies office building. President Trump’s unwarranted and vicious attacks against me were a dog whistle to dangerous radicals that could lead to serious attacks on me and my family,” she declared in part of a Sunday on X, raising alarms about threats directed at her and her family.

She also insisted she remains loyal to the president’s agenda while rejecting the traitor label, framing her position as one of having fought for the same goals Trump advanced. “I am not a traitor. However, when the President of the United States irresponsibly calls a Member of Congress of his own party, traitor, he is signaling what must be done to a traitor. I fought harder than anyone to help President Trump get elected and I support his administration and the promises we made on the campaign,” she wrote, pressing the point that her record aligns with the broader conservative project.

Trump has not limited himself to name-calling; he has also moved politically by rescinding explicit backing and suggesting room for a primary challenge in her district. “I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia,” he declared in part of a post, and added that conservative voters who are “fed up with her and her antics” could earn his “Complete and Unyielding Support” if a suitable challenger emerges.

That posture has real implications inside the party because a former president’s endorsement — and its withdrawal — can reshape a primary field quickly. On social platforms he has also labeled her a “RINO,” and at one point wrote, “Marjorie ‘Traitor’ Green is a disgrace to our GREAT REPUBLICAN PARTY!” making clear that his displeasure is as much about party image and discipline as it is about individual behavior.

The public tit-for-tat has produced mixed messages from allies and rivals alike, and it has prompted Greene to acknowledge the toxicity of the exchange even as she defends her record. Her critics argue that attention-grabbing stunts and incendiary rhetoric risk distracting from conservative priorities, while her supporters say she is targeted for speaking bluntly and for holding to hardline positions that appeal to a segment of the base.

What follows will matter to Republican strategists and voters who want the party focused on elections and policy rather than infighting, and it will matter to a congresswoman facing both public criticism and security concerns. The possibility of a contested primary, and the question of whether Trump will back a successor, is now an active element in the landscape Republicans will watch as the next campaign season approaches.
