President Trump has nominated Lance Schroyer to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, tapping a career law enforcement officer with deep ties to Oklahoma and a record of aggressive immigration enforcement. The pick is presented as a move to strengthen ICE’s operational edge, emphasize arrests of criminal noncitizens, and push for fast Senate confirmation. This article outlines Schroyer’s background, the White House pitch, support from Homeland Security, and the political backdrop around the nomination.

Schroyer comes to the nomination with decades in the field, described as a former Oklahoma State Trooper and United States Marine. The campaign line is plain: a boots-on-the-ground leader who knows how to run operations and work with state partners. That practical profile is exactly what supporters say ICE needs after years of turbulent leadership and acting directors.

President Trump highlighted Schroyer’s long service and local ties in a statement that leaned on political wins and law enforcement credentials. “Lance has over 29 YEARS of Law Enforcement experience in Oklahoma — A State where I WON all 77 Counties in 2016, 2020, and 2024!” the president wrote on Truth Social. The nomination plays to a broader theme of restoring order and backing officers who pursue criminal deportations.

The White House framed Schroyer as a tough, experienced operator who can scale enforcement across jurisdictions. “He is a PATRIOT with real operational experience, and proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst, including spearheading 287g Law Enforcement partnerships with ICE!” Trump continued. That 287g experience is being touted as evidence he can coordinate local and federal action effectively.

Beyond coordination, the nomination emphasizes results on criminal removals and daily arrest metrics. The president said Schroyer “has what it takes to DETAIN AND DEPORT Illegal Alien Criminals, including murders, rapists, and drug traffickers at a rate never seen before! Remember, our Administration has the HIGHEST Daily Arrest Rate by ICE and CBP than ANY other President, by far. It’s not even close! The Senate must CONFIRM Lance, IMMEDIATELY — Do not delay. Together, we will MAKE AMERICA SAFE AGAIN.” Supporters point to those figures as proof the approach is working.

Schroyer would replace Acting Director David Venturella, who stepped into the role earlier this month after Todd Lyons. That continuity among acting leaders underlines a larger push to finally seat a Senate-confirmed director after a long gap. Administration messaging stresses that confirmed leadership will empower ICE to sustain large-scale operations and hold criminal aliens accountable.

Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin praised the pick and reiterated confidence in Schroyer’s frontline experience and management skills. “Lance will play a vital role in helping deliver on the President’s mandate from the American people to target, arrest, and deport illegal aliens,” he wrote on X. “Lance is coming straight from the operational field where he ran large scale operations and worked alongside state and federal partners to remove illegal aliens from Oklahoma under the 287g program.”

Mullin doubled down on that support with a second comment urging swift action. “I’m confident Lance’s strong leadership and firsthand experience will empower the men and women of ICE to deport criminal illegal aliens, secure the homeland, and protect the American people.” Both Mullin and Schroyer are from Oklahoma, and the secretary has publicly urged the Senate to “quickly confirm Lance Schroyer.”

The nomination lands amid a charged moment for immigration enforcement, with protests in multiple cities after two fatal ICE shootings in Minneapolis earlier this year. That context guarantees robust debate in the Senate and in public forums, as advocates for stricter enforcement square off against critics concerned about civil liberties and use of force. Republicans backing the nomination present it as a common-sense move to restore operational discipline and protect communities.
