Texas Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett presented singer Chris Brown with a congressional recognition Saturday night during his tour stop with Usher at AT&T Stadium outside Dallas.
Crockett shouted to the crowd, “We are here because of Chris Brown!” as Brown stood onstage grinning while the audience cheered. She was joined by State Rep. Venton Jones and music producer RoccStar for the announcement, which placed Brown and Usher in the Congressional Record in honor of their impact as artists.
“We are experiencing Black joy at the highest level. And I wanted to make sure we document that at the congressional level. So let’s give it up again for Chris Brown,” Crockett told the crowd.
Crockett called Brown “a real one.” Brown then hugged the congresswoman and thanked her from the stage: “I appreciate all the love. You know I f–k with y’all for real,” he said as she walked off.
The recognition given to Brown makes no mention of his legal history. Brown pleaded guilty in 2009 to a violent assault on his then-girlfriend Rihanna. He was arrested in 2023 for allegedly smashing a bottle over a music producer’s head in a nightclub, and later pleaded guilty in that case, according to ABC.
Crockett lost her Democratic primary bid for U.S. Senate in Texas earlier this year to Rep. James Talarico. A representative from her office did not respond to a request for comment.
