A video from 2021 featuring Maine’s Secretary of State, Shenna Bellows, discussing topics such as “election sabotage” and “democracy” recently emerged.
Bellows unilaterally barred President Trump from being on the 2024 ballot.
In 2016 and 2020, President Trump won one of Maine’s electoral votes.
The legal basis for this action is Section 3 of the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states that public officials who have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the US may be disqualified from holding public office.
To date, no charges have been brought against President Trump for engaging in insurrection or rebellion against the United States.
However, Bellows has asserted that his primary petition is invalid despite not being a lawyer herself.
In a 2021 video interview with other Democrat Secretaries of State, Bellows admitted that the ACLU and SPLC are working to prevent President Trump from appearing on ballots in certain states.
“We need to organize to make sure we have better leaders in positions of power to fight back against [election sabotage],” Bellows said before admitting that far-left organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) and American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) are working to bar Trump from the ballot.
