Kim Kardashian says co-parenting with ex-husband Kanye West carries a “big burden” she carries for the sake of their four children, even as she admits she will “always worry” about him.
The 46-year-old reality star and SKIMS founder discussed the arrangement in “Citizen Kim: The Woman Who Created the Future,” an authorized biography by journalist Jonathan Van Meter, who interviewed Kardashian and people close to her between 2018 and 2026.
“Oh, I worry about [Kanye] all day. All the time. That’s the father of my kids, I’ll never not worry about him,” she said, according to Us Weekly. “And that’s a big burden of having kids with someone who you don’t necessarily get along with. My kids would never know that.”
Kardashian, 46, was married to West, 49, from 2014 until their divorce was finalized in 2022. The couple share North, 13, Saint, 10, Chicago, 8, and Psalm, 7.
Despite a rocky history, Kardashian said the day-to-day logistics have settled into something workable.
“It’s been pretty smooth for a while. I guess because we don’t talk that much. But when we see each other, we give each other a hug,” she said.
She said she tries to set aside past conflicts while keeping her own boundaries intact, and that she wants her children to view their father in the best possible light.
“I want them to think their dad is the greatest,” she said.
Kardashian said she stays close with West’s family and keeps an open invitation for him to spend time with the kids at her house.
“Anytime you’re in town, come for dinner with us, see the kids as much as you want, take them out, come over and hang out. That’s their family. So I encourage the relationship with their dad so much,” she said.
She said she’s even offered to leave her own home so West can be comfortable spending time there with the children, including overnight stays.
“Do you want to come to dinner? I’ll leave the house. Come and have dinner with the kids in their house so that they can feel comfy. Sleep over for a few nights?” she said.
Last Christmas, Kardashian invited West to stay overnight on Christmas Eve and bring his wife, Bianca Censori.
“Last Christmas, I said, ‘Sleep over on Christmas Eve. Bring your girlfriend.’ I’m easy! ‘Let’s all do Christmas together,'” she recalled, adding she plans to make the same offer again this year.
“And I’ll recommend it again this year. I will sweep everything under the rug, all the horrible things he has said about me, so that the kids can see their father,” she said.
Kardashian said she remains worried about West’s well-being, noting that “he always seems to pick himself up” but that watching him struggle is difficult.
“And I don’t think it’s going to get better. I pray it does. For my kids,” she said.
She said she now communicates with West largely through Censori and the rapper’s manager.
West addressed his bipolar disorder diagnosis and apologized for antisemitic comments in a Wall Street Journal advertisement in January. Earlier this month, Kardashian also said she employs five nannies to help care for her four children.
