Just days after Elon Musk announced the release of the Twitter files to prove that the media giant worked with Democrats to cover up the Hunter Biden laptop story, the nets are hard at work doing damage control. Their goal? To use Trump (and TDS) to distract viewers from what’s really happening.
The Twitter Files were downplayed by CBS, which arrived on the scene with Monday’s CBS Mornings, but only gave them 26 seconds out of a three-minute and four-second story on former President Trump’s Truth Social post.
Co-host Tony Dokoupil set the table by arguing Republicans support it with their silence by not devoting their attention to fixating on Trump: “Former President Donald Trump is in your news feeds this morning for suggesting parts of the U.S. Constitution should be terminated and that puts some Republicans in the hot seat for failing to condemn that remark.”
Now, obviously, they weren’t the only ones using Trump’s post to downplay the obvious censorship collusion but the one thing they all had in common was no one shared the context of Trump’s post.
NBC avoided talking about the Twitter files altogether but rushed to drop Trump’s comment in during a segment discussing the Georgia runoff races.
White House correspondent Peter Alexander also lumped in his Truth Social post to Trump’s past grievances about 2020— Of course, offering no explanation for what Trump was reacting to:
[I]t’s a continuation of the former President’s election denialism. Former President Trump calling for the termination of the Constitution, saying that he wants to overturn the 2020 election results and to have himself reinstated in power. Remember, we’re nearly two years after his election defeat and he wrote on his social media page in part, “a massive fraud of this type and magnitude allows for the termination of all rules, regulations and articles, even those found in the Constitution.”
He concluded, “Of course, there was no evidence of any widespread fraud in the 2020 election. Mr. Trump was a drag on his party’s candidates in those key races in the most recent midterms and he hasn’t been here in recent weeks to try to help out Herschel Walker. As for his call to terminate the Constitution, Savannah, top Republicans have been silent.”
I think their efforts will all be in vain come January when the GOP takes over the majority in the House. They must know that so this seems to me like they’re setting the stage for another epic leftest plot.
