During a recent conversation with Democratic lawmakers aimed at addressing worries about his cognitive abilities and securing backing for his re-election, Joe Biden was given a discreet message by his staff advising him to maintain a positive tone.
Subsequently, he proceeded to vocalize the contents of the note to those present on the call.
According to the New York Times, a staffer gave Biden a note card with tips saying, “Stay positive, you are sounding defensive,” Biden then read aloud the private note on the call.
🤣🤣🤣
One lawmaker told the New York Times that the moment was an example of how “stage-managed” calls between the president and lawmakers are.
Biden has a track record of struggling to differentiate private notes from his rehearsed and controlled remarks, often inadvertently vocalizing instructions meant for his eyes only.
While addressing the North America’s Building Trade Union (NABTU) National Legislative Conference, Biden at one point audibly read teleprompter cues:
“Four more years? Pause?”
Biden also vocalized teleprompter cues during a speech in North Carolina.
When discussing the Supreme Court’s ruling on presidential immunity and quoting Justice Sonia Sotomayor, Biden again read the teleprompter instructions:
“end of quote.”
During @JoeBiden’s call with the Congressional Progressive Caucus, the president said his staff passed him a note to “stay positive you are sounding defensive.” Biden read the note aloud to participants on the call.
