Chairman James Comer (R-KY) of the House Oversight Committee has issued a subpoena for Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle to attend a hearing on July 22, in order to discuss the assassination attempt on former President Donald Trump.
WATCH:
Lawmakers on the Oversight Committee encountered a hurdle when requesting Cheatle’s “voluntary” attendance on July 13, as they accused the Homeland Security Department of obstructing the Secret Service’s cooperation with the investigation into the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.

Despite the Secret Service’s scheduled virtual briefing on Tuesday, many GOP lawmakers are demanding the resignation of Cheatle and are even considering defunding her salary and initiating independent investigations of the shooting.
Public congressional hearings are looming, but Cheatle is standing firm in her refusal to step down.
During the event, Crooks fired a series of shots at Trump from a rooftop before being taken down by a Secret Service counter sniper.
This incident has been labeled as a major security failure that left the former president vulnerable.
