Biden’s lackluster showing in the debate has been cited as a possible reason for his decision to invoke executive privilege to withhold the audio recordings of his October 2023 interview with Special Counsel Robert Hur regarding the classified documents investigation.
According to a transcript released by Hur, Biden made several mistakes, including an inability to recall key dates such as his tenure as vice president and his son Beau’s passing.
Hur reportedly chose not to pursue charges against Biden for possessing classified documents due to concerns that a jury might view Biden as an elderly man with a failing memory.
The release of Hur’s report in February sparked speculation about Biden’s fitness for office, but a strong performance at the State of the Union address in March temporarily alleviated concerns.
However, following the recent debate, doubts about Biden’s condition are beginning to emerge in the media.

The past 36 hours showcased two Joe Bidens: the veteran president rallying voters in a swing state, and an 81-year-old man struggling to string thoughts together in a debate.
Why it matters: The public split screen isn’t new to many inside the White House, where top aides have meticulously stage-managed minutiae such as Biden’s sleep schedule, his orthopedic shoes, his walks to Marine One and his climb aboard Air Force One to try to blunt concerns about his age.
…Biden’s miscues and limitations are more familiar inside the White House.
The time of day is important as to which of the two Bidens will appear.
From 10am to 4pm, Biden is dependably engaged — and many of his public events in front of cameras are held within those hours.
Outside of that time range or while traveling abroad, Biden is more likely to have verbal miscues and become fatigued, aides told Axios.
The White House dismissed videos showing Biden appearing disoriented and requiring assistance to leave the stage at multiple events earlier this month as “cheap fakes,” in an attempt to prevent media coverage of his apparent mental fragility.
However, this narrative was shattered during Thursday night’s debate, particularly when Jill Biden had to assist Joe in exiting the stage and descending a small flight of stairs.
In the nuclear age, when rapid decisions are critical in matters of war and potential destruction, the American president must be fully operational at all times.
With Biden only functioning for approximately six hours from mid-morning to mid-afternoon, concerns arise.
Democrats and the nation must consider if the U.S. would be better served by Dementia Joe or Cackling Kamala for the remainder of Joe’s term.
