A Wichita, Kansas, man is accused of entering a hospital and raping three powerless female patients before he was confronted and arrested, according to police.
According to police spokesperson Juan Rebolledo, Miguel Rodela, a 28-year-old Wichita, Kansas man somehow managed to make his way into the Ascension Via Christi St. Francis hospital on Thursday morning where he proceeded to rape three female patients who were “physically powerless” before being confronted by security guards and subsequently arrested.
The incident occurred at around 2 am on Thursday morning when security staff were notified of an “officer in trouble” situation.
Upon arriving on the scene, it was discovered that Mr. Rodela had not only committed three counts of sexual assault against multiple women but had also gotten into a scuffle with two guards who had attempted to confront him.
The victims’ ages or medical conditions have been kept private for their protection however Mr. Rodela has since been taken into custody and charged with three counts of rape described as “sexual intercourse with a physically powerless victim.”
Nurses at the Wichita hospital voted overwhelmingly to strike in order to protest the company for “putting profits before patients,” one of their main concerns being workplace violence which unfortunately appears to be more than just a statement now after such a horrific event took place within its walls.
The man was arrested and booked into the Sedgwick County Jail. He was charged with three rape counts described as “sexual intercourse with physically powerless victim,” and held without bond.
KAKE-TV reported that Rodela had been previously convicted of aggravated assault and theft in 2019 and was currently on a community corrections program according to the Kansas Department of Corrections.
On Wednesday, union nurses at the Wichita hospital voted overwhelmingly to strike in order to protest the company for “putting profits before patients.” Among their stated concerns was workplace violence.
