The liberal media and Democrats have been trying to scapegoat the Republicans and the GOP for the debt ceiling crisis, but CNBC host Joe Kernen isn’t having any of it.
During a recent interview with Democratic Rhode Island Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, Kernen held the Senator’s feet to the fire and refused to let him get away with the blame game the Democrats have been playing.
The House Republicans passed a debt ceiling proposal that would raise the budget up $1.5 trillion by cutting approximately $130 billion in federal spending for fiscal year 2023.
The White House has vowed to veto the legislation, instead calling on Republicans to agree to a clean debt ceiling raise with talks about budgetary concerns later.
Instead of compromising or negotiating with the GOP, Democrats are trying to paint the situation as the GOP being unwilling to negotiate.
Kernen was quick to shoot down this false narrative. When Whitehouse tried to blame Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy for the debt crisis, Kernen reminded him that McCarthy had nothing to do with the Senate.
The Senator then went on to say that Democrats were willing to negotiate a budget “through a proper, legitimate constitutional process of negotiation, through the budget and appropriations process in which everybody gets their say…not bringing the default hand grenade into the room.”
Kernen, however, pointed out that Democrats were essentially taking the same stance as McCarthy, saying “we’re both pointing at the other, and we get closer and closer to default.”
It’s clear that Democrats and the liberal media are trying to push a false narrative and blame the GOP for the debt ceiling crisis. The truth is that both parties are responsible for the current situation and it’s time for both of them to put their differences aside and come up with a solution that works for both of them.
If Democrats and Republicans can’t work together to find a way out of this mess, then they’re going to have to answer to the American people.
