It’s shameful and embarrassing that President Joe Biden laughed while discussing the heartbreaking story of Rebecca Kiessling, a mother who lost two of her children to fentanyl overdoses in 2020. Kiessling’s sons took what they thought were Percocet pills, but they were laced with opioids that ended up costing them their lives.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., pinned blame on the government for failing to stop the inflow of illicit drugs into America during a House hearing on the southern border crisis. She noted that the government has failed the American people and their children. Her words were met with Biden laughing and saying, “Isn’t [Marjorie Taylor Greene] amazing? Oof.”
The idea that Biden was laughing while discussing the tragic death of two young people is outrageous and indicative of his administration’s lack of empathy and compassion. What makes matters even worse is that Biden had the audacity to blame the deaths on the previous administration’s failure to build a wall at the southern border.
Kiessling was right to point out that her sons’ death was a murder, not an overdose. She noted that the “dealer” of the fentanyl was saved with Narcan, a drug that can reverse overdoses. The dealer ended up being sentenced to eight to fifteen years in prison in 2021.
Biden’s laughter in the face of Kiessling’s tragedy is indicative of his administration’s failure to prioritize border security and prevent the inflow of illegal drugs into the country. It’s also a sign of their complacency in the face of the opioid epidemic that is ravaging the country.
Just as a side note, while Biden was busy laughing that Kiessling’s sons died under the Trump administration, he failed to recognize that it was the Democrats who fought Trump on building a border wall that was meant to prevent illegal activity at the border—Such as drug trafficking.

It’s time for the Biden administration to take responsibility for its part in this crisis and take action to prevent more people from suffering the same fate as Kiessling’s sons. It’s the only way to ensure that tragedies like this don’t happen again.
Powerful testimony from a mom who lost her two sons to fentanyl poisoning:
"You talk about children being taken away from their parents? My children were taken away from me. 100,000 Americans every year are having their children…taken away from them." pic.twitter.com/nBmeyzH5RM

It’s up to Biden and his administration to take responsibility for their part in this crisis and do something about it. They must take action to stop the inflow of illegal drugs and to make sure that people like Kiessling’s sons don’t become victims of this border crisis.
