I stumbled upon an old post back in the circulation of an illegal immigrant who was shot 68 times by officers after he reportedly murdered an officer, Deputy Matt Williams, and his K9 fellow officer, DiOGi. SWAT was called in and shot the criminal 68 times. There was a great deal of dispute about this post being ‘fake’ so let’s talk about it.
I have covered Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd a lot over the years because he is a personal hero of mine. I wish there were more like him. That said, while I can’t confirm everything the post claims he said, I have no doubt his response to the shooting was too different from what the post claims.
The post reads:
Polk County Florida Sheriff – “You kill a policeman it means no arrest…no Miranda rights…no negotiations…nothing but as many bullets as we can shoot into you…PERIOD.”
An illegal alien, in Polk County, Florida , who got pulled over in a routine traffic stop, ended up “executing” the deputy who stopped him. The deputy was shot eight times, including once behind his right ear at close range. Another deputy was wounded and a police dog killed. A state-wide manhunt ensued.
The murderer was found hiding in a wooded area. As soon as he took a shot at the SWAT team, officers opened fire on him. They hit the guy 68 times.
Naturally, the liberal media went nuts and asked why they had to shoot the poor, undocumented immigrant 68 times.
Sheriff Grady Judd told the Orlando Sentinel: “Because that’s all the ammunition we had.” Now, is that just about the all-time greatest answer or what!
The Coroner also reported that the illegal alien died of natural causes. When asked by a reporter how that could be, since there were 68 bullet wounds in his body, he simply replied: (BEST QUOTE ever) ….”When you are shot 68 times you are naturally gonna die.”
To explain what actually took place you have to travel back nearly 16-years ago when on Sept. 28, 2006, Polk County Deputy Doug Speirs pulled over a speeding rental car bearing Kentucky tags in Lakeland, Florida. That vehicle was being driven by Angilo Freeland, a 27-year-old Antiguan man who had been arrested on various charges in 1999 but had afterward skipped bail.
Angilo Freeland handed Deputy Speirs a fraudulently obtained drivers license bearing another man’s name, something about the proffered ID bothered Speirs, so he called for backup. Deputy Matt Williams and his police dog, DiOGi, were dispatched to the scene.
Freeland picked up on the officer’s suspicion and took off into a heavily wooded area. The two officers and the K9 persued him. DiOGi was the first to locate the suspect who shot the dog in the chest, killing him instantly. Freeland then fired his .45 at Deputy Williams who returned fire but was shot and killed by the suspect.
Speirs, who was in a different area followed the sound of gunfire and also returned fire. Speirs was hit by one of Freeland’s bullets in the leg and radioed for backup. During the two shootouts, Freeland was hit in the wrist and shoulder.
Freeland hid behind a fallen tree until morning and that is when 10 members of SWAT found him. He reportedly raised his gun to those officers who attempted to coax him into surrendering.
They lit him up.
The SWAT team fired 110 shots, 68 of which found their target.
Did Sheriff Judd say everything the post claims? Not on camera. He did congratulate SWAT for a job well done. When a reporter asked why officers fired 110 shots, Judd explained that it was probably all the ammo they had. Those parts are for sure true. He has also explained over the years, several times, that a suspect surrenders peacefully they will be okay but if they raise their weapon to officers they’re going to die.
I don’t believe Judd has ever pulled a punch. Especially when it comes to his officers.
Also, the coroner did, in fact, deem Freeland’s death of ‘natural causes’, because yes—“When you are shot 68 times you are naturally gonna die.”
Where are those Judd’s exact words? I have no proof of that, but I also have zero doubt about the claim.
