Vince Gilligan’s Apple TV series “Pluribus” swept six Emmy awards, including long-delayed wins for Gilligan and star Rhea Seehorn, but the creator says Season 2 is far from ready.
Speaking at the 2026 Emmys, Gilligan gave a status report on the sophomore season. “It took us a while, we figured it out, but Season 2 is not technically all written,” he said. “We’ve broken it out, which is the hard part. In other words, the plot of all episodes (is figured out). The first and second are written.”
“The rest of them are in various stages of being written, but we know what the whole season is, and we will share it soon with Rhea,” Gilligan continued. “Sometimes the actors like Karolina and Samba, sometimes they don’t necessarily want to know. They kind of want to be surprised, which I kind of like that.”
Seehorn confirmed she has not yet seen any Season 2 scripts.
The show has already proven its commercial worth. Apple ordered Season 2 before Season 1 even premiered, and “Pluribus” has since become the most-watched drama in Apple TV’s history.
Season 1 ran nine episodes and ended with a string of cliffhangers left unresolved for Carol (Seehorn), Manousos (Carlos-Manuel Vesga), Zosia (Karolina Wydra), Mr. Diabaté (Samba Schutte), and the mysterious hive mind.
Production is expected to start in fall 2026. On the Emmys red carpet, Wydra confirmed filming will begin “very, very soon.” Fans had hoped that timeline pointed to a late 2027 premiere, but Gilligan’s comments suggest the show may not return until 2028.
