Vice President JD Vance told the Republican midterm convention that radical Democratic candidates running this cycle deserve a “one-way ticket to a mental hospital,” not a seat in Washington, D.C.

Vance opened by attacking the record of the Biden administration, saying that under Democratic leadership the country was left “weaker, wide open, and our communities less safe.” He pointed to falling worker wages, prices up 20 percent, and large numbers of illegal immigrants entering the country over four years as evidence of what he called a bankrupted legacy.

“The Democrat legacy of the last few years was that they bankrupted our country and left us poor,” Vance said. “Their record, my friends, stands for itself. And rather than admit error and change course, of course they are doubling down on the crazy.”

He argued that Democratic primaries have consistently produced extremists over moderates. “In primary after primary, we have watched the few reasonable Democrats lose to extremists who openly hate our nation,” he said, adding that the policies aren’t new — “defund the police, abolish the border, the green new deal” — but that a “new type of hardcore hatred” now drives the party’s candidates.

Naming names, city by city

Vance then walked through specific races. On a Manhattan candidate, he said: “You have Democrat candidates who declare their life goal is, and I quote, ‘The total eradication of Western civilization.’ A few years ago, they cheered on the most horrific slaughter of innocent civilian Jews that we have seen in a generation.”

On Lansing, Michigan: “You have Democrats who call for, quote, ‘Destroying the American way of life.'”

Turning to Texas, Vance took aim at Democratic Senate candidate James Talarico. “This Talarico guy, he will not shut up about how there are six genders,” Vance said. “He will not shut up about how, quote, ‘God is non-binary.’ I don’t know what the hell that even means, my friends.” He added, “I never want to see that guy’s web browser history. It’s not a good place. We’d rather be here.”

On Denver, Colorado, Vance said Democrats there “say that 9/11 was inevitable” and “offer justifications for terrorists who murdered 3,000 of our fellow citizens.” He said the situation in Michigan was worse still, claiming Democrats there are “campaigning with radicals who explicitly say that America deserved the 9/11 attacks.”

Vance also said these candidates, beyond calling to repeal the Second Amendment, “will attack you as a literal white supremacist if you dare to criticize Sharia law.” He said congressional Democrats in New York have described July 4 celebrations as being “really about the liberation of Palestine and Puerto Rico.”

Vance reminded the crowd these are candidates “that congressional Democrats have put forth for you to vote for in November.”

“They asked, my friends, for a one-way ticket to Washington to legislate and regulate and wield power over your lives,” Vance said. “Instead, in my opinion, they need a one-way ticket to a mental hospital.”
