H-2B visas for unskilled seasonal labor are currently limited to 66,000 visas per year. But an effort by pro-foreign worker Members of Congress in 2015 resulted in a provision to spending bill that exempted returning workers from the 2016 visa cap. This provision quadrupled the potential number of H-2B visas available to 264,000.
These same Members of Congress tried again in 2016, but failed, yet our Capitol Hill sources say they’re at it again!
The current continuing resolution (passed in December) expired the returning workers exemption. But that CR expires in April when Congress will have to act again. Please help us block any efforts to add the returning workers exemption to the April spending bill.
There are two actions you can take.
1) Send an email to your Member(s) of Congress urging them to oppose exempting returning workers from the H-2B annual cap. You can fing your congressman’s contact information here.
2) If you have a Twitter account, send a Tweet to your Member(s) of Congress. If you don’t have a Twitter account, but would like to sign up for one, click here.
