President Donald Trump told an Ohio crowd Wednesday that Democrat Senate nominee Sherrod Brown “was a stone-cold loser for Ohio,” using a rally in Chillicothe to tear into Brown’s voting record while stumping for Republican Sen. John Husted.
Brown served three terms in the U.S. Senate after time in the House before losing his seat in 2024. He’s now running to return to the Senate, facing Husted, who took the seat vacated by Vice President JD Vance in 2025. Trump’s rally also backed Vivek Ramaswamy, the GOP’s nominee for Ohio governor, and other Republicans on the ballot.
Trump accused Brown of a career built on votes for sanctuary cities, benefits for illegal immigrants, tax increases, and restrictions on gun rights.
“So Sherrod Brown voted ten times for deadly sanctuary cities that release illegal alien criminals to rape and kill and plunder into our country. He voted to dump tens of thousands of third-world migrants into communities like Springfield, Ohio,” Trump said.
He pointed to France as a cautionary tale, rejecting the idea that the country’s troubles stem from education policy.
“We don’t want to be France. Look what happened … they say it’s education … No, it’s not … It was immigration. It was all immigration,” Trump said.
Trump said Brown backed welfare, free health care, and free housing for illegal immigrants “at the expense of our own people,” while voting to raise taxes more than 50 times. He set that record against his own One Big Beautiful Bill, signed in the summer of 2025, which he called the biggest tax cut in history.
He also blamed Brown for the border crisis under President Joe Biden and the Democrat-controlled 117th Congress of 2021-2023.
“And just in case anyone forgets Sherrod Brown’s treasonous betrayal on the border, take a look at the carnage and chaos his policies unleashed, and he was all for it,” Trump said. “He was a terrible senator. He was a terrible representative of our country, and we cannot let him back. He was a stone-cold loser for Ohio.”
Trump warned that Brown and Amy Acton, Ohio’s Democratic nominee for governor, would spend tax dollars on benefits for illegal immigrants if elected.
“Sherrod Brown and Amy Acton will take your money to fund unlimited benefits for illegal aliens who kill, and steal, loot. John Husted and Vivek Ramaswamy will stop the state of Ohio from being invaded, plundered, ransacked … They’ll stop it from being, quite honestly, destroyed,” Trump said.
On gun rights, Trump said Brown has voted more than a dozen times against the Second Amendment and has earned consecutive F ratings from the NRA.
“Sherrod Brown also voted more than a dozen times to gut your Second Amendment, so he voted more than a dozen times to terminate your Second Amendment, and he just got … like for many years in a row, an F rating from the NRA. F means take away,” Trump said.
Trump said Acton also carries an F rating from the NRA, while Husted and Ramaswamy both hold A ratings.
