President Trump issued a firm, public warning that the federal government will not wade into unrest in Democrat-run cities unless those local leaders formally request help, while also ordering strong protection of federal property and personnel. He made his stance clear on social media and singled out enforcement agencies to be decisive in defending courthouses, federal buildings, and federal employees. The move frames a tough law-and-order response that shifts responsibility back to state and local officials unless they explicitly invite federal assistance.

Trump made the point directly on social media, placing the onus on local officials to ask for federal support before it will be provided. “I have instructed Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, that under no circumstances are we going to participate in various poorly run Democrat Cities with regard to their Protests and/or Riots unless, and until, they ask us for help,” he wrote on Truth Social. That line is meant to be a clear red line: federal forces will not unilaterally step into municipal disputes.

At the same time, Trump left no doubt about federal priorities when federal property is threatened, stressing active defense of those sites. He added that the government will “guard, and very powerfully so, any and all Federal Buildings that are being attacked by these highly paid Lunatics, Agitators, and Insurrectionists.” The administration is signaling a zero-tolerance approach to attacks on federal facilities and the people who work there.

The president also named specific agencies and demanded forceful action to protect federal assets and officers. “Please be aware that I have instructed ICE and/or Border Patrol to be very forceful in this protection of Federal Government Property,” he wrote, listing behaviors that will not be tolerated. “There will be no spitting in the faces of our Officers, there will be no punching or kicking the headlights of our cars, and there will be no rock or brick throwing at our vehicles, or at our Patriot Warriors.

“If there is, those people will suffer an equal, or more, consequence.”

Trump framed his message as both a warning and a challenge to local leadership, saying cities must secure their own streets and protect federal sites within their borders. He pointed to a recent incident to illustrate his point, charging that lawlessness in some places forced federal intervention where local police stood down. “Last night in Eugene, Oregon, these criminals broke into a Federal Building, and did great damage, also scaring and harassing the hardworking employees,” he continued.

He criticized local police for failing to act in that incident and promised a prompt federal response when a formal request arrives. “Local Police did nothing in order to stop it. We will not let that happen anymore!” the post said, tying Washington’s readiness to the willingness of local officials to invite help. Trump compared the planned federal response to past operations, referencing previous cooperation where federal forces stepped in to restore order.

The president urged governors and mayors to be explicit if they want federal aid, even instructing the use of the word “PLEASE” when requesting assistance. He made it clear that the federal commitment depends on a clear and specific ask from local leaders, stressing respect for jurisdictional boundaries unless those leaders waive them. That insistence is part of a broader pitch: secure borders, national security, and strict law and order.

“Remember that I stated, in the strongest of language, to BEWARE—ICE, Border Patrol or, if necessary, our Military, will be extremely powerful and tough in the protection of our Federal Property,” he wrote. “We will not allow our Courthouses, Federal Buildings, or anything else under our protection, to be damaged in any way, shape, or form. I was elected on a Policy of Border Control (which has now been perfected!), National Security, and LAW AND ORDER—That’s what America wants, and that’s what America is getting!”
