President Donald Trump rallied in Syracuse on Friday to campaign for Bruce Blakeman, the Republican running for governor of New York against Gov. Kathy Hochul. Boxing champion Mike Tyson joined him on stage.

Trump used the stop to attack Hochul over taxes, utility bills and public safety, arguing Blakeman would lower costs for New Yorkers by pushing domestic energy production.

He also took aim at a change in state law that replaces the words “mother” and “father” with “gestating parent” and “non-gestating parent” in surrogacy statutes, and that renames “paternity” hearings as “parentage” hearings.

“Kathy Hochul supports transgender mutilation of your children. She supports men in women’s sports and a bill that would change the terms of mother and father to gestating and non-gestating parents,” Trump told the crowd.

“You can no longer say ‘mother, hi mom!’ it’s ‘hi gestating.’ Hi gestating, I love you so much gestating.”

Blakeman also criticized the law, calling it “insane.”

A protester was removed from the rally and made an obscene gesture as the crowd chanted “USA!” Trump called the person a “loser.”

Separately, a claim circulated online from an Eastern European account alleging Trump’s motorcade had been surrounded while he was in Syracuse. The claim was false and was flagged with a Community Note.
