Six people were shot and three of them died in Seattle over a single 24-hour stretch this past weekend, as police say they are actively hunting the shooters responsible.
Interim Police Chief Andre Sayles told KOMO News that officers are looking for known “trigger pullers” in the community, signaling that at least some of the shootings are believed to be tied to individuals already known to police.
The violence started at 12:40 a.m. Sunday when a fight broke out at a street takeover and gunfire erupted. Four people were initially reported shot, but Sayles later clarified that one of those individuals had not actually been shot — the blood on that person came from helping a shooting victim. One person died in that incident.
Roughly 80 minutes later, at 2:00 a.m., a woman was found shot in her car in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood, suffering gunshot wounds to her head and torso. She died after being taken to the hospital.
Then, at 12:30 a.m. Monday, another shooting left a 17-year-old boy dead and a 21-year-old man in critical condition.
Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson, a Democrat, addressed the bloodshed publicly.
“This weekend, we’ve seen three people die which is incredibly tragic and my heart goes out to the victims and their families and I know that SPD is hard at work actively investigating and they’ll keep up apprised as they learn more,” Wilson said, according to FOX 13.
Police have not announced any arrests in connection with the shootings. Investigations into all three incidents remain ongoing.
