“Long story short, House Democrats are acting more conservative than Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and certain Republican senators”

Chris McNutt, the executive director of Texas Gun Rights, appeared on the Patriotically Correct radio this Thursday, and told host Stew Peters that Texas Republicans such as Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick are doing more to sabotage the HB 1927 constitutional carry bill than their Democrat counterparts.

McNutt cited pressure from liberal activist groups, including left-wing law enforcement unions and police chiefs as a key component of state Republicans’ reasons to block the legislation.

“Yeah, so the House passed a pretty decent constitutional carry bill, it wasn’t the strongest form that we wanted but it was a pretty good bill,” McNutt said of HB 1927. “But, of course, when it gets over to the Senate, the first thing Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick – who presides over the Senate – does is go to the media and say ‘Oh, constitutional carry doesn’t have the votes in the Republican-controlled Texas Senate.’”

“We start turning up the pressure, and of course you know we find out he’s being pressured by liberal law enforcement unions, and liberal police chiefs in places like Dallas, where the police chief is a new transplant from California who advocated for Bloomberg style gun control,” McNutt continued. “So these people are getting into the ears of [the] Lieutenant Governor, along with some squishy senators that didn’t want to publicly support constitutional carry.”

Several Republican state senators, including Joan Huffman according to McNutt, added poison pill language to the bill that would cause it to violate the rules of the Texas legislature, and therefore nullify the bill. McNutt noted that “Lieutenant Governor Patrick was warned about this [poison pill] being an issue before he did it, and he did it anyway.”

HB 1927’s fate now lies in the hands of a conference committee consisting of members of both the state house and senate, after Democrat legislators agreed to withdraw a point of order regarding the bill.

“Long story short, House Democrats are acting more conservative than Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and certain Republican senators,” McNutt added.
