Republican Eric Flores is challenging ten-year Democrat incumbent Rep. Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) in Texas’s 34th Congressional District, and he isn’t holding back on the attacks. In an appearance on Breitbart News Daily, Flores accused Gonzalez of pushing the “woke left trans agenda” while branding his record in Congress ineffective and self-serving.
The district itself has flipped on the political map. Before redistricting, Texas’s 34th was a +7 Democrat seat. It now sits at roughly +3 Republican, turning what was once safe Democrat territory into a genuine tossup heading into the next election.
Flores went after Gonzalez’s attendance and legislative record directly.
“Well, you know, he’s been there 10 years, and he’s been, you know, quite a bit of work. I don’t know anybody that can keep a job for, you know — [he] missed over 220 days of work. He’s been completely ineffective. Ten years, passed one piece of legislation just to rename a post office,” Flores said.
Flores didn’t stop at attendance. He accused Gonzalez of embracing the far left of his party, saying the congressman calls Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN) “patriots” even as he claims to be a moderate voice for south Texas.
On policy, Flores pointed to Gonzalez’s votes on gender issues and abortion as proof the incumbent is out of step with the district.
“When it comes to protecting women’s spaces, you can’t do that. Can’t even show up to work to do that. I mean, he is just pro-choice. I mean, I could go on and on. You know, voted to allow taxpayer-funded sex changes for minors,” Flores said.
Flores argued Gonzalez only presents himself as a moderate because he knows his own party has drifted too far left to be popular with voters.
“I mean, because he knows his party is so just terrible. I mean, they became a party of communists and socialists. So you know, in a nutshell, that’s who he is, and he’s just run a political charade, just getting rich… He’s in Congress. He’s got to get the hell out of Washington,” Flores said.
Flores also referenced what he described as Gonzalez’s involvement in an “equality contest,” tying it back to transgender policy, and insisted the incumbent’s voting record doesn’t reflect the values of south Texas families.
“He’s on that equality contest, and I’m pretty sure there’s ten letters that follow after that. You know, that also has grown substantially, but that’s who he is. But you know he votes the far-left woke agenda,” Flores said, adding that it does not align with the values of south Texas of faith, family, and freedom.
Flores framed Gonzalez’s self-description as a “right kind of Democrat” as nothing more than a political act designed to survive in a district that is trending away from his party.
