Moments after the Democratic nominee’s debate with former President Donald Trump, pop superstar Taylor Swift publicly endorsed Kamala Harris for president, sparking a flurry of responses on social media.
Swift, known for her growing outspokenness on political matters, used Instagram to convey her backing for Harris, citing the alignment of the vice president’s values and causes with her own beliefs.
“I’m voting for @kamalaharris because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote in her post.
She emphasized that she had done her own research and urged her 283 million followers to do the same before making their own voting decisions.
“Your research is all yours to do, and the choice is yours to make,” Swift added, while encouraging first-time voters to register and participate early in the election.
Swift signed off the post as “Taylor Swift, Childless Cat Lady,” a nod to a 2021 comment by Republican vice-presidential candidate J.D. Vance, who referred to “childless cat ladies” in a critical statement about Democratic leadership.
Swift and her supporters have repeatedly referred to the comment made by Vance, Trump’s running mate.
