Police in Smyrna, Georgia, have charged 18-year-old Kingston Lammar Bradley with malice murder after witnesses reported seeing him carrying a container of human remains outside his apartment complex.
Smyrna Police Lt. Meredith Holt said witnesses saw Bradley walking with the container. When he realized he’d been spotted, he dropped it and ran into his apartment. Witnesses then found human remains inside and called police.
Police had already been to Bradley’s home once before, after the family of a missing woman reported her car and phone were located there. Officers did not execute a search warrant at that time, Holt said.
After witnesses reported the remains, police returned to search Bradley’s car under a new warrant and found a garbage bag pulled tight, with what a police news release described as “the outline of a body part.” The Cobb County Medical Examiner’s office confirmed the bags contained human remains.
Smyrna Police Chief Keith Zgonc identified the victim as Shanteria “KT” Mosley, whose family had reported her missing. Holt confirmed Mosley worked for DoorDash. The company told police she had not been working the day she disappeared, and told People Magazine her account was last active on Tuesday.
Police say they do not yet know what connection, if any, Bradley had to Mosley.
“This is a shocking crime, I don’t know how else to describe it. I’ve been in law enforcement for 25 years and I have been a part of multiple homicide cases and I’ve worked crimes against children for 16 years, and this is a particularly gruesome crime,” Holt said at a news conference. “I cannot imagine what the family is going through.”
Holt said officers had responded to Bradley’s apartment before for domestic disputes, but nothing in those past encounters suggested he was capable of a killing of this nature.
Bradley faces an additional charge of concealing the death of a person. Police say they are still searching for other human remains.
Bradley appeared in Cobb County Magistrate Court on Thursday, where a judge denied him bond. His next court hearing is scheduled for October.
