President Joe Biden’s early gaffes and stumbles as president were initially dismissed as isolated incidents.
However, his declining cognitive and physical health became increasingly apparent, leading many to conclude that the US president was a frail elderly man, a concerning image on the global stage.
This decline was starkly evident during his debate with former President Donald Trump, prompting the White House, media, and allies to acknowledge it.
Ultimately, this led to his decision not to seek a second term.
According to Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Biden’s cognitive decline was apparent years ago when he repeatedly mistook Lee’s wife for a White House staffer at an event, an uncomfortable situation that foreshadowed Biden’s current condition.
The outlet noted:
He said what really struck him was that he and his wife, Sharon, had met the president on multiple occasions.
But during that White House reception for congressional spouses about two years ago, the president did not even recognize her when she said hello to the president.
Biden repeatedly asked for her name and inquired if she was a White House employee, leading to a series of uncomfortable exchanges.
To make matters worse, she had to correct the president by reminding him that she was Lee’s wife, only to have Biden ask again if she worked at the White House.
The awkward encounters were described by Lee when speaking with Tucker Carlson.
“He was not quite there,” Lee said. “There was a kind of a deer in the headlights phenomenon. [Sharon] said ‘it was like I was talking to somebody who wasn’t aware of what was going on.”
Lee added, “I’ve interacted a fair amount with with Joe Biden over the years, my wife a lot less, of course, but enough times that she was able to recognize what is his personality and what isn’t, and she realized this is very out of character for him.”
The Utah Republican characterized the encounter as “disturbing.”
Only time will reveal if others come forward with comparable accounts. It’s likely that there are many more.
