Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato have reunited for a new Rare Beauty campaign that recreates the poster from their 2009 Disney Channel film, “Princess Protection Program.”
Gomez posted the images on Instagram, writing, “Once a Princess, always a Princess 👑💗.” She added, “Best friends don’t just have each other’s backs. They make them blush too. @ddlovato @rarebeauty.”
The campaign promotes the Delena blush bundle, priced at $76, which includes two shades of Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Liquid Blush, Hope and Virtue, plus a blush brush.
The pair recreated their film looks with upgrades. Gomez wears a teal Oscar de la Renta gown from the design house’s resort 2016 collection, while Lovato wears a yellow embellished mini dress from Leo Lin priced at $3,295. In the original movie poster, Gomez also wore teal and Lovato wore yellow.
Rare Beauty’s press release called it “the reunion the internet has been manifesting for years.”
“Coming together for this campaign was a beautiful reminder of that history and a chance to celebrate who we are today. One and the same….always,” Gomez said.
“Selena and I have shared a lot of memories over the years since childhood,” Lovato said. “So being able to connect in this way, in a campaign that feels so nostalgic to both of us, is such a full-circle moment.”
Gomez and Lovato met in 2002 at age seven while both auditioning for “Barney,” and have known each other for nearly 25 years. Their friendship has not always been steady. In a 2020 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Lovato said the two had drifted apart.
“When you grow up with somebody, you’re always going to have love for them. But I’m not friends with her, so it felt …” Lovato said. “I will always have love for her, and I wish everybody nothing but the best.”
Signs of a thaw appeared in April, when Gomez attended one of Lovato’s concerts and supported her from the audience.
