Rosie O’Donnell is considering leaving Dublin and moving back to New York after celebrating this week’s midterm election results, in which Democrats won control of the House and the Senate.
O’Donnell left the United States for Ireland after Donald Trump won a second term in 2024. She told The Washington Post that while she loves her life in Dublin, her family is pulling her home.
“Beautiful — we love it here, but my family’s not here.”
She said she misses her grown children and a grandson born six months ago. “I feel like I’ve missed half his life already and don’t want to miss any more,” she said. O’Donnell has four children with ex-wife Kelli Carpenter and one with late ex-wife Michelle Rounds.
O’Donnell, a longtime critic of Trump, posted a TikTok video Wednesday celebrating the midterm results.
“It’s a beautiful morning in the world. The Trump regime is over, thank you America. I knew we would do it; I knew it in my heart.”
She said she went to bed early in Dublin as results came in overnight. “I didn’t think I could stay up; I was so anxious,” she said. “I went to bed and at 3 o’clock in the morning — ding, ding, ding, ding — everyone started texting me and I started to cry.”
She described putting on a blue sweater the next morning. “I was so overwhelmed with emotion — overwhelmed — and I got up this morning and I took a shower and I put on my blue jumper … and I’m like, I’m wearing blue today.”
O’Donnell said she was “so proud of all of us, of our country” and called for accountability over what she described as “unconstitutional, un-American things that this administration has perpetrated on the people of this country and the world.” “Let the investigations begin, really,” she said. “This is a glorious day.”
The White House fired back in a statement to Fox News Digital: “Rosie O’Donnell is a nasty woman and a total slob whose brain has been completely destroyed by Trump Derangement Syndrome.”
Earlier this year, O’Donnell guest-hosted Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night show, where she referred to the president as “orange Voldemort” and thanked viewers, including “the hungry, hungry hypocrite in the White House.”
O’Donnell and Trump have clashed publicly for nearly two decades, dating back to a 2006 dispute over his handling of a Miss USA controversy during her time on “The View.” Trump threatened to revoke her citizenship after she relocated to Ireland in 2025.
