In her upcoming memoir, titled “Dear Mom and Dad: A Letter About Family Memory, and the America We Once Knew,” Patti Davis, daughter of former President Ronald Reagan, discloses what she believes to be the true motivation behind her father’s marriage to former First Lady Nancy Reagan.

She reveals that her mother had convinced Reagan to marry her after becoming pregnant with their firstborn child.

Davis expresses skepticism that her mother’s out-of-wedlock pregnancy was the result of carelessness, instead suggesting it was the motivating factor behind her parents’ marriage.

Reagan had previously made a pact with his first wife, Jane Wyman, not to remarry before her, however, when he learned of Nancy’s pregnancy during a dinner date, he excused himself and contacted Wyman to inform her that he must break their agreement.

Davis’ memoir, “Dear Mom and Dad,” is set to be released on February 6.

Through her personal exploration, the book provides a nuanced perspective of her admiration for her father and the complexities of her relationship with her mother.

Reflecting on family stories, Davis acknowledges that they are often more significant, messy, and tender than initially believed.

The memoir aims to delve into these intricacies to offer insight into family dynamics, memories and reflections on America’s past.

Following his divorce from Academy Award winner Jane Wyman, Nancy Davis was among the women Reagan, then a Hollywood star, was romantically involved with.

The couple had two children, Michael and Maureen, as well as a third child who passed away shortly after birth.

According to Davis’ narrative, Reagan and Wyman had previously agreed that he would not remarry before she did. Despite this agreement, Reagan pursued relationships with multiple women without any intention of entering into marriage again.

This marked a turning point in the Reagans’ lives which eventually had an international impact when Ronald Reagan served during some of the most transformational years in American history.
