“Real Housewives of New York City” star Sai De Silva says the moment she knew her marriage was over came after a romantic birthday dinner — when she discovered her husband had charged the bill to her own credit card.
De Silva, 45, told her aunt, Sufia, on Tuesday’s episode of the Bravo show that the dinner with husband David Craig had been “beautiful.” “We came home. We had amazing sex. Everything was great. I was like, ‘Okay, all right, I feel this,'” she said. The episode was filmed before Craig filed for divorce in April.
Then she checked the bills. “The f—king dinner was on my credit card,” De Silva said. “I said, ‘David! You made me pay for my own dinner? My own birthday dinner?'” She added: “And that’s when I knew… what’s left?”
De Silva also told her aunt she believed Craig stayed in the marriage for the wrong reasons, despite there being “never any affection” between them. “I think he liked the illusion of being my husband,” she said. “I think he liked the illusion of being a family unit, and I think he likes the lifestyle.”
She said she wanted a divorce and raised it with Craig, but he responded in a way she described as “aggressive,” so the two agreed to separate instead. De Silva said that without their two children — daughter London, 14, and son Rio, 8 — the marriage “would’ve been a wrap a long time ago.”
Craig ultimately filed for divorce in New York City on April 2, after almost nine years of marriage, according to court documents obtained by Page Six. On “Watch What Happens Live” Tuesday night, De Silva confirmed to host Andy Cohen that the divorce is still ongoing, and that Craig filing “without letting me know” was the point where she felt there was “no going back.” She also said co-parenting with him now is “not great.”
Three days after the filing, De Silva posted a statement thanking fans for their support. “I’m overwhelmed by all your messages and it truly means more than you know,” she wrote. “My heart is with my children, and my focus is on giving them as much stability and love as possible.”
De Silva and Craig met on a trip to Costa Rica in 2009 and married in June 2017. In a 2023 Bravo blog post, De Silva had called Craig “very involved when it comes to his family” and the “perfect guy,” while joking he was “a terrible Instagram husband.”
