ABC is planning to end Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2027, according to sources cited by Page Six, marking the possible conclusion of a 24-year run for the network’s longest-standing late-night host.
Sources told the outlet that the coming season will be Kimmel’s last, with a final episode date set for May 2027. “His contract is not getting extended,” one source said.
ABC Entertainment has pushed back on the report. A spokesperson told Page Six the “information is inaccurate” and said “any reports about the future of the show at this point are purely speculative.”
The report surfaced after Rosie O’Donnell wrapped a four-night guest-hosting stint on Kimmel’s show that drew strong ratings. O’Donnell went viral during her run for a parody of “Danny Boy” mocking President Trump, which she titled “Donnie Boy.” A source told Page Six O’Donnell was “in her element.”
Kimmel has hosted the show since 2003, making him one of the longest-running network late-night hosts in television history, trailing only David Letterman and Johnny Carson.
The source said Kimmel’s exit has nothing to do with his ongoing public feud with President Trump. Instead, the source said Disney chief Josh D’Amaro would be canceling the show for economic reasons alone.
“He’s not afraid of the administration… Josh isn’t folding,” the source said.
If confirmed, the cancellation would be the latest sign that network late-night television is fading. Stephen Colbert’s CBS show was canceled earlier this year, a decision widely read as the start of a broader collapse in the format.
TV Insider noted the report may simply reflect ongoing contract negotiations rather than a settled decision. “Kimmel’s recent deals with ABC have been structured on a year-to-year basis, meaning his future with the network has regularly been revisited,” the outlet said.
