The father of a 5-year-old Queens girl allegedly killed by her mother is asking strangers for help paying for her funeral. Kuldeep Singh says he does not have the money for the deposit a funeral home and cemetery are demanding to bury his daughter, Fabiana Cabello.
“The funeral home and cemetery are asking for a deposit, and I do not have the money for it,” Singh wrote on a GoFundMe page he started two days after Fabiana’s death. “I am asking for help with her funeral and cemetery costs.”
“I loved my daughter very much, and losing her feels like I lost my whole world,” he wrote.
Singh works as an Uber driver out of a rental car. He says he’s trying to keep working while grieving, but the costs are piling up faster than he can manage.
“I am trying to keep working as an Uber driver while driving a rental car, but I am grieving and struggling to manage these costs at the same time,” he wrote.
What police say happened
Fabiana’s mother, 32-year-old Francis Cabello, was charged with murder Thursday after she told a 911 operator, “I killed my daughter,” according to police and sources.
Officers found the child unconscious and unresponsive inside the family’s home on 110th Street near 95th Avenue in South Richmond Hill just before 7 p.m. Wednesday. She had blood on her nose and mouth.
Fabiana’s grandfather, Franklin Cabello, spoke to reporters in the aftermath. “As a family, we feel mentally and physically destroyed. We can’t think [clearly] but we put our confidence in God,” he said.
Family members say Francis Cabello had struggled with psychological issues. Prosecutors said at her Friday arraignment that she may have strangled her daughter. A preliminary autopsy found the child “sustained scrapes to her face, as well as petechiae to her eyes, heart and lungs, findings which can be found in cases of asphyxia.” The official cause of death is still pending further study.
Francis Cabello was taken to a hospital for a psychiatric evaluation after her daughter was found.
A father’s plea
Singh says he wants to give his daughter “a proper funeral and cemetery service.”
“Any donation, no matter the amount, would help ease this burden and support me during one of the hardest moments of my life,” he wrote. “If you are able to help, please consider donating or sharing this fundraiser. Thank you for supporting my daughter and helping me honor her memory.”
