Rachel Danis, the new wife of Patrick Clancy, says the people closest to her reacted with worry when they learned she had started dating the man whose three young children were killed by his then-wife, Lindsay Clancy.
Danis, an infertility specialist, married Patrick Clancy in April. The couple sat together for Clancy’s first interview with “60 Minutes,” which aired Sunday, just weeks after Lindsay Clancy’s triple murder trial ended in a hung jury.
CBS correspondent Ross Douthat asked Danis how her inner circle first reacted to news of the relationship. She paused before answering.
“Everyone paused – um, understandably so,” Danis said. “I say everyone, I had told like a couple of close friends, and I think family members were picking up on it because they would ask what I’m doing that weekend or that evening and I would mention Pat. So people were catching on and I think people were worried.”
Asked how she eased her family’s concerns, Danis said she simply told them how happy she was.
“I would say and still say, for the first time, Sundays felt like Saturdays. So I didn’t have a reason to stop,” Danis said, describing the early days of the relationship after she and Patrick Clancy met while running in Central Park in January 2024.
“Life just got a lot calmer for me. And while I did have hesitations, you know, Pat was saying he wants the same things that I do,” she added.
Patrick Clancy moved to New York City seeking anonymity months after returning to his home in Duxbury, Massachusetts, on Jan. 24, 2023, to find that Lindsay Clancy had fatally strangled their three young children — Cora, 5; Dawson, 3; and 8-month-old Callan — before throwing herself out of a window in a botched suicide attempt.
During the interview, Danis and Clancy said they are now starting a family of their own and are looking forward to telling their future child about the siblings who were killed.
