Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) issued her first public statement Monday after federal agents searched her Washington, D.C.-area residence, accusing President Donald Trump of weaponizing federal law enforcement against her.
“I’m ok,” Omar said in the statement, posted to social media.
Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation.
She closed by saying, “I will not be silenced.”
Agents with Homeland Security Investigations, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, executed the search warrant at Omar’s home as part of what officials describe as an ongoing federal investigation.
A Justice Department spokesperson confirmed the action in a statement: “Today in the Washington, D.C., area, Homeland Security Investigations executed a judicially authorized search warrant secured by the Department of Justice. This enforcement action is part of an ongoing federal investigation.”
According to Reuters, the search stems from an investigation into possible immigration fraud tied to paperwork filed by Omar’s late father when she was a child.
No further details on the scope of the investigation or potential charges have been released. This is a developing story.
