The Department of Justice called out the Obama administration for its mishandling of sexual harassment allegations. We probably won’t see these splashed across liberal television anytime soon.
In a statement, Department of Justice spokesman Ian Prior discussed the incidents of sexual harassment:
The Department does not discuss specific employee disciplinary actions or comment on personnel actions or matters that may impact personal privacy. That said, the Department was very disappointed with the issues that occurred in the Obama administration and strives for a workplace free of harassment and other misconduct for all of our 115,000 employees.
That is why the Civil Division has implemented additional safeguards and systems to ensure that all misconduct allegations are handled appropriately going forward…
Although he did not cite any specific cases, a few leaks have painted a disturbing picture.
In one case, the inspector general found that one top attorney in the Office of Immigration Litigation, Victor Lawrence, was accused. At a happy hour, he “groped the breasts and buttocks of two female trial attorneys.”
Shockingly, he was given no suspension or pay reduction. Instead, he got a reprimand and “relief from supervisory duties”. According to sources, higher-ups believed his suspension would “deprive the government”.
Keeping Lawrence on challenged the sense of safety that females had within the department. One woman said she was “terrified” to get in elevators out of fear he might be in there.
And no, the harassment wasn’t just amongst the men. Former Oregon prosecutor Amanda Marshall was accused of sending harassing texts and emails to a subordinate when her relationship with a subordinate ended. Later, she said the relationship was “wrong” and called it a “mistake”.
Allegedly, this is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to sexual harassment allegations in the Obama administration. 17 employees in the Department of Justice wrote to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein about their cases. Time will tell if we hear more.
Really, though. Is anyone surprised? The Democrats have a long history of being complicit with the abuse of women.
