NYU Langone Health’s Manhattan campus has been named the nation’s top comprehensive academic medical center for the fifth year in a row, according to rankings released Wednesday by healthcare improvement company Vizient. No health system has ever held the No. 1 spot in this category for five consecutive years, and NYU Langone beat out more than 120 institutions nationwide to do it.
Vizient’s Quality and Accountability Study evaluates more than 1,000 hospitals and healthcare organizations across the country every year. The rankings are based on six metrics: safety, mortality, effectiveness, efficiency, patient centeredness and equity. Vizient runs statistical analysis on those metrics to determine which hospitals come out on top overall.
Dr. Alec C. Kimmelman, dean of NYU Grossman School of Medicine and CEO of NYU Langone Health, credited the hospital’s staff for the repeat win.
“When patients look for the best place to receive their care, nothing matters more than quality and safety. Vizient understands that. That’s why NYU Langone is exceedingly proud of our teams, whose shared commitment to the highest standards led to this incredible, repeated recognition.”
NYU Langone didn’t just win the top category. Its network of more than 400 ambulatory practices, which handle primary, specialty and surgical care along with imaging and lab work without requiring an overnight stay, earned the highest rating among physician practice networks nationwide out of 70 participating organizations. Several of the system’s inpatient facilities in Brooklyn and on Long Island also picked up honors in their respective categories.
NYU Langone wasn’t alone last year. Northwell Health, Hackensack University Medical Center, and several hospitals in the NewYork-Presbyterian system, including Weill Cornell Medical Center, also earned high rankings from Vizient.
The Vizient results come less than two months after NYU Langone Hospitals landed a spot on US News & World Report’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll for 2026-2027, a list of 20 medical centers the outlet says excel across complex specialty care, benchmark procedures, patient outcomes, nursing quality and patient experience.
