Democratic Texas Rep. Jasmine Crockett has made it clear that President-elect Donald Trump should face no period of rest as he begins his upcoming term in office. Crockett emphasized that Trump must work tirelessly to address pressing issues like rising prices and national security threats, urging relentless action over the next four years.
Crockett delivered her remarks on ABC News’s This Week during a panel discussion where former White House Chief of Staff Reince Priebus suggested Trump be granted a “month of peace” while assembling his cabinet. Rejecting the notion outright, Crockett stressed that the presidency comes with unyielding responsibilities.
“I don’t know about giving him any peace, child,” Crockett said. “But I will say, because you signed up to be the president of the United States, and we are definitely at a precipice in this country. People are hurting, and they believe in him. So, no, there should not be any peace over the next four years.”
The congresswoman outlined her expectations for Trump, stating he must prioritize key domestic concerns, such as inflation, while also tackling pressing global issues. “He should be working every single day, not hanging out at Mar-a-Lago or playing golf,” Crockett added. “He needs to be fighting to deliver for the American people—to bring these prices down and to ensure our safety.”
Additionally, Crockett highlighted Trump’s campaign promises to end foreign wars quickly. “He is the guy that said, ‘On day one, I will stop this war, I will stop that war,’” she remarked. “I don’t know what magic wand he has in his back pocket that’s going to allow him to do that.”
Her comments come amid a broader discussion about presidential priorities and vacations, fueled in part by Republican critiques of President Joe Biden’s frequent time away from the White House.
Biden’s vacation habits have sparked significant controversy, especially given the country’s ongoing crises, including high illegal border crossings and soaring inflation. In August 2023, the Republican National Committee (RNC) Research noted on X (formerly Twitter) that Biden had spent 532 days on vacation—or 40.3% of his presidency—by the end of that month.
“Biden spent today—his 16th straight day on vacation—lounging on the beach,” the RNC Research post read. “Who’s running the country?”

Further scrutiny revealed that Biden’s vacation schedule included trips to Delaware and California, drawing criticism for his perceived disengagement during national emergencies. The Economic Times reported in September that Biden averaged 133 days of vacation annually, a stark contrast to the typical American worker, who would require nearly 48 years to accumulate the same amount of time off based on 11 annual leave days.
Crockett’s comments, contrasting sharply with Republican criticisms, suggest a broader divide over how presidents should prioritize their time and responsibilities. Her insistence that Trump forego any leniency during his term underscores the Democratic position that the role of the president demands unwavering dedication.
Crockett acknowledged that Trump had secured voter support but reiterated that the country’s challenges leave no room for rest. “He won because people believe in him,” she said. “Now, he needs to work relentlessly to deliver on those beliefs.”
The congresswoman’s remarks also resonate within the context of Trump’s campaign rhetoric, which promised swift action on both domestic and foreign fronts. Critics, however, question whether Trump’s bold promises can translate into tangible results, particularly in areas like inflation and conflict resolution.
As Trump prepares to assume office, the scrutiny on his ability to meet these challenges will likely intensify. Crockett’s call for constant action reflects a belief that the presidency demands unceasing commitment, especially during times of national uncertainty.
While Trump supporters have celebrated his victory, Crockett’s perspective serves as a reminder of the intense expectations and responsibilities that come with leading the nation. How Trump navigates these demands in the coming years will shape both his legacy and the country’s future.
In the highly polarized political climate, debates over presidential priorities—whether vacations or ceaseless work—will undoubtedly continue to dominate discussions as the new administration begins.
