Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi took aim at former President Donald Trump with sharp criticism following what appears to have been a failed assassination attempt on Trump’s life.

Speaking at the Cap Times Idea Fest event in Wisconsin, Pelosi highlighted the state’s importance in the 2024 election and the preservation of “democracy.”

She stated that “vanquishing Trump” was essential to restoring American democracy and reclaiming a Republican Party she claimed had been “hijacked.”

“He projects. He says ‘crazy Nancy’ — he is crazy,” Pelosi remarked. “He says ‘crooked Hillary’ — he’s crooked. Every adjective he uses is really about himself. So when he says people are eating cats and dogs, I’m just wondering about him.”

Pelosi also stressed the significance of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries becoming Speaker of the House, stating, “For the good of our country, it is absolutely essential that Hakeem Jeffries has the gavel … when Congress votes to accept the results of the Electoral College.”

Her comments came just one day after an apparent assassination attempt on Trump.

Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw and other law enforcement officials shared details about the incident, which occurred at Trump’s golf club in Florida.

According to Bradshaw, a Secret Service agent thwarted the attempt when they spotted a rifle’s barrel near a hole Trump was about to play.

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris were briefed and expressed relief that Trump was unharmed.

The White House issued a statement, noting they would continue to receive updates on the investigation.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis also addressed the incident, announcing on social media that his state would investigate the attempt on Trump’s life, writing:

“The people deserve the truth about the would-be assassin and how he was able to get within 500 yards of the former president.”

Trump’s campaign issued a statement assuring the public that the former president was safe, and Trump himself addressed supporters, declaring, “I AM SAFE AND WELL! Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me. Unity. Peace. Make America Great Again.”
