Los Angeles Rams defensive end Myles Garrett has partnered with Paramount Pictures to promote the upcoming film “Heart of the Beast,” which stars his own German Shepherd, Bojji.
In a promotional video, Garrett is shown playing fetch with Bojji in an open field in California, throwing a tree branch while narrating the similarities between his relationship with his dog and the bond depicted in the film between the main character, James Belmont, played by Brad Pitt, and a dog named Oden.
“In Heart of the Beast, James and Oden have an incredibly strong bond, and I feel I have something similar with Bojji,” Garrett said. “As simple as greeting me every time I come to the door, or waking me up in the morning and always sticking by my side.”
“That means the world to me. That’s special enough, regardless of what happens on the field, you know, having those moments with him.”
Garrett said he identifies with how James feels toward Oden in the film, calling Bojji his “best friend” and his “ride or die.”
“Heart of the Beast” is a survival thriller centered on Pitt’s character and the dog Oden being stranded in a snow-covered Alaskan forest after a plane crash, forced to find their own way back to civilization.
The cast also includes Anna Lambe, known for “The Grizzlies” and “Dusk & Dawn,” who plays a character named Amber, and J.K. Simmons, who plays a character named Walter Boone.
The film hits theaters September 25.
The Hollywood spotlight comes at a rough moment for Garrett on the field. He landed on the Rams’ injured reserve after a disappointing debut last week that raised concerns about his knee. He is set to miss a minimum of four games and will undergo arthroscopic knee surgery. Head coach Sean McVay told reporters Monday there is no timeline yet for his return.
