A mother in Oklahoma has filed a lawsuit against Edmond Public Schools after her teenage daughter was allegedly severely beaten by a transgender student in the girls’ bathroom.

The incident, which took place at Edmond Memorial High School on October 26, 2022, left the young girl with “severe physical and mental injuries, severe physical and mental pain and suffering, and severe emotional distress.” According to the legal document obtained by The New York Post, the accused attacker was assigned male at birth.

The lawsuit blames the school district for failing to enforce state law which stipulates that public school students must use restrooms corresponding to the sex stated on their birth certificates.

Signed in May of 2022, this law also requires students who identify as transgender but choose not to comply with this policy to use a “single-occupancy restroom or changing room.”

Despite this legislation being in place prior to the attack on E.G., it appears that it was not enforced due to an apparent lack of oversight by school officials.

According to Theresa Gooden’s suit, her daughter’s alleged attacker had made threats towards E.G prior to being removed from school by police on October 21.

However, despite these threats being reported it appears no steps were taken until after E.G was physically attacked days later in the girls’ restroom due to what is believed to be violations of existing state laws pertaining to bathroom use for individuals who do not identify with their biological sex at birth.

As such, Gooden is suing the district for more than $75,000 in damages and reimbursement of her legal fees arguing that should have been done more timely enforcement of existing laws could have prevented this incident from ever occurring in first place thus protecting her daughter from coming under harm’s way under any circumstances whatsoever.

In light of these events, many conservatives believe that schools need better mechanisms put into practice so as ensure incidents such as these are never allowed to occur again.

Daily Mail reported:

The suit also states that the transgender student ‘confided’ in her daughter that ‘he was in fact a male student that identified as a female.’

E.G. claims that she informed the assistant principal Maryjel Cochrane of the conversation, but court documents claim nothing was done.

he lawsuit states that the district was aware that the student was transgender at the time of the attack in October but had done nothing about it.

The school claims they were not aware, as the pupil had only enrolled at the school a few days prior to the incident.

In a statement, the school previously said that the pupil was enrolled as a female as parents are not required to present birth certificates when starting.
