McDonald’s has released a statement addressing claims made by Vice President Kamala Harris regarding her past employment at the fast-food chain. The company confirmed that there is no record of Harris having worked at McDonald’s, despite her repeated assertions. The controversy, now being referred to as “Stolen McValor” on social media, has drawn significant attention and cast doubt on Harris’s claims.

The issue gained traction following a public appearance by former President Donald Trump, who spent part of a weekend at a McDonald’s in Pennsylvania, serving customers and working the drive-thru. This unexpected move was seen as a way for Trump to connect with everyday Americans, contrasting sharply with Harris’s unverified claim of once working for the fast-food giant.

The timing of Trump’s visit drew even more focus on Harris’s statements. While Trump’s gesture resonated with voters, Harris found herself in the midst of scrutiny over her alleged connection to McDonald’s, which many now view as a misleading element of her public persona.

Harris first mentioned her McDonald’s employment back in 2009 during a union event. Since then, she has referenced the job in public speeches. However, her two memoirs, which provide detailed accounts of her life, make no mention of her time at the restaurant, further raising questions about the validity of her claims. Moreover, despite requests from the media, Harris’s campaign has not provided any documentation or confirmation of her time spent working at the fast-food chain.

The lack of verification has caused widespread skepticism. In today’s digital age, proving past employment is relatively simple, as records can be requested or former coworkers can be contacted. Critics of Harris have been quick to point this out, with one commentator stating, “As it so happens, I worked at a McDonald’s in the early eighties and could easily prove it by requesting documents or naming a dozen people who knew I worked there.”

In response to the growing public interest and scrutiny, McDonald’s issued a carefully worded statement. The company acknowledged both Donald Trump’s public affinity for the brand and Harris’s claims of having once worked there. “Though we are not a political brand, we’ve been proud to hear former President Trump’s love for McDonald’s and Vice President Harris’s fond memories working under the Arches,” read the statement.

However, McDonald’s noted that they do not have employment records dating back to the 1980s for all positions, which would include Harris’s alleged tenure. The company added, “The shared experience of working at McDonald’s is what makes us special,” but stopped short of confirming whether Harris ever worked for the company. In an interesting twist, McDonald’s invited both Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, to visit one of their locations—an invitation that many viewed as a diplomatic way of handling the situation.

Yet, the controversy deepened when reports surfaced from a McDonald’s in Alameda, California—the location where Harris claimed to have worked. According to The Telegraph, employees at that branch had been instructed by management not to discuss Harris’s employment. When asked about her time at McDonald’s, Harris has declined to specify which exact location she worked at, leaving further questions unanswered.

Critics have questioned why the employees would be instructed to remain silent if Harris had genuinely worked there. One commentator pointed out, “Why would employees be instructed to stay quiet if she really worked there? It seems like the only reason to say nothing is if she didn’t actually work there.”

The issue surrounding Harris’s employment claims has now taken center stage, with many calling for greater transparency from the vice president. While Harris has built a long and notable career, the McDonald’s claim—if false—could become a sticking point in her public image, raising questions about her credibility.

Corporate media has also come under fire for what some see as a lack of investigative effort regarding Harris’s claims. Several conservative outlets have suggested that media outlets sympathetic to Harris may be deflecting attention away from the issue, a claim bolstered by the limited coverage of the controversy in mainstream news.

As the 2024 election season heats up, this incident could have ramifications for Harris’s campaign. In an election cycle where authenticity and relatability are paramount, allegations of embellishing or fabricating details of one’s personal history can be damaging. Harris’s campaign team has yet to formally address the McDonald’s controversy, leaving voters with more questions than answers.

Ultimately, the statement from McDonald’s has not settled the matter, and calls for Harris to clarify her past employment grow louder by the day. Whether this incident will fade from the public consciousness or become a significant issue during the campaign remains to be seen, but for now, the debate around Harris’s alleged time at McDonald’s continues to dominate headlines.
