West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin’s recent announcement that he is considering leaving the Democrat Party to become independent has the potential to be a game changer in the 2024 presidential election.

This move could take away votes from President Joe Biden and give them to former President Donald Trump, who is presumed to be the Republican candidate for president.

Manchin made his comments on Thursday on MetroNews’ “Talkline,” saying he was seriously considering leaving the Democratic Party and turning into an independent politician because of how bad the brand had become nationally.

He believes that this would allow him to have a more independent voice when discussing political issues with Republicans and Democrats alike.

This move could also lead Manchin towards launching a third-party campaign for president in 2024, potentially taking away even more votes from Biden and delivering them to Trump, or someone else on the Republican ticket.

Matt Bennett, an executive editor of progressive left group MoveOn, wrote an op-ed last week for MSNBC saying that No Labels’ rumored bid would be a nightmare for Democrats and hurt Biden’s chances at winning another term in office.

A poll conducted by Prime Group recently found that an unnamed “moderate, independent third-party candidate” would pull more votes from Biden than Trump if they were both running against each other in 2024.

Based off of these facts alone it seems clear why Manchin’s decision matters so much: whatever he decides will have huge implications for both parties moving forward as well as their respective candidates come November 3rd of next year.

For Republicans, this news means they may have another ally on their side who could take some of the spotlight away from former President Trump if he does decide to run again in 2024; something which might not bode well with voters who are tired of hearing about him after four years of his presidency already being under their belt. For Democrats though?

They just lost one of their most moderate voices within Congress and now risk losing even more support if Manchin decides to go through with his plans – something which could spell disaster come to Election Day once again if history repeats itself like many expect it will do so once again next year.

In conclusion, it’s hard not to see why Manchin’s decision matters so much – especially since we’re only nine months away from Election Day – but only time will tell what direction he ultimately goes in and what impact his choice will have on our nation’s future going forward no matter which way it falls out for either party involved here!
