In mid-July 2024, the White House revealed that President Joe Biden had tested positive for COVID-19 while in Las Vegas, Nevada, for a campaign event.

The event was promptly canceled, and Biden was quietly whisked away to his home in Delaware, where he spent a week in isolation. Shortly thereafter, he announced his decision to drop his re-election bid.

At the time, the White House downplayed the situation, describing the president’s condition as mild. However, newly uncovered audio recordings from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) dispatch suggest the situation may have been more serious than initially portrayed.

These recordings provide insight into the local authorities’ rapid and coordinated response to the sudden change in the president’s plans, painting a picture of urgency and uncertainty that contrasts with the official narrative.

The watchdog group Judicial Watch revealed on Friday that it had obtained audio from the LVMPD’s dispatch, recorded on the night of July 17, 2024, when Biden’s planned campaign event in Las Vegas was abruptly canceled.

According to the recordings, law enforcement was immediately mobilized to handle what was described as a situation involving a “sick or injured” person—who was, of course, the sitting president.

The recordings detail the police department’s swift response. Officers were instructed to secure routes and block off roads, with several transmissions referencing the need for squad cars to utilize emergency lights and sirens.

Initially, the plan seemed to involve transporting Biden to a local hospital, but this strategy was quickly abandoned. Instead, efforts were redirected to securing a route to the airport, where Air Force One was waiting.

Tensions were high, with officers discussing tactical gear and readiness for plainclothes agents, should the need arise. However, the operation proceeded smoothly, with Biden safely escorted to the airport.

The police dispatcher congratulated the officers on a job well done, commenting on how efficiently the team had handled the unexpected situation. The entire effort was praised as looking “like we had planned it for weeks,” despite the sudden change in plans.

While these dispatch recordings offer a more dramatic account of the events, they don’t necessarily contradict the White House’s narrative. But they do challenge the calm, business-as-usual tone adopted by officials and much of the media at the time.

Immediately following Biden’s departure from Las Vegas, the White House reported that the president had tested positive for COVID-19 but was experiencing only mild symptoms. Social media rumors soon erupted, with some suggesting that Biden had suffered a more serious health episode.

These claims were quickly dismissed by both the White House and fact-checking outlets. According to FactCheck.org, the idea that Biden had experienced a “medical emergency” was labeled “baseless” and untrue.

The dispatch recordings, however, raise questions about how accurately the situation was portrayed. While it’s standard for police to secure routes and put hospitals on standby for a sick president, the recordings reflect an air of urgency that was notably absent from the official communications.

Furthermore, the fact that local police were initially prepared to transport Biden to a hospital suggests that there was concern about his condition, even if he ultimately never needed hospitalization.

In the days following his COVID diagnosis, Biden spent a week in isolation at his home in Delaware. The White House reiterated that his symptoms were mild, and that his health was never in serious jeopardy. But the timing of this incident has fueled speculation.

Just days after the Las Vegas episode, Biden announced that he would not be seeking re-election in 2024. The decision followed months of growing pressure for him to step aside amid concerns about his age and ability to handle the demands of the presidency.

Given this context, some have questioned whether Biden’s health scare in Las Vegas was truly as minor as the White House claimed. The LVMPD dispatch recordings, while not definitive proof of anything more serious, suggest that the situation may have been more concerning than initially acknowledged.

The swift mobilization of police and the shift from a potential hospital trip to an immediate exit via Air Force One raise questions about what truly transpired behind the scenes.

The White House has remained tight-lipped since the initial reports, declining to offer further details on the incident. This lack of transparency has only deepened public skepticism, especially in light of Biden’s decision to step down from the race. Whether this was merely a mild COVID case or a more significant event will likely continue to be a topic of speculation.

In the end, the truth of what happened in Las Vegas may remain murky, but the newly revealed dispatch recordings offer a fresh perspective on the level of concern surrounding Biden’s health on that critical July night. And as political analysts and critics continue to piece together the puzzle, it seems that the final chapter of Biden’s presidency may have been shaped in part by an event that the public was never fully privy to.
