Los Angeles transportation officials are now auditing the city’s street sweeping ticket system after getting caught continuing to collect on thousands of fines the city had already claimed it was dismissing.

An investigation by L.A. Material found the Los Angeles Department of Transportation issued more than 12,500 street sweeping tickets on days when no sweeping was even scheduled. Total take: nearly $1 million in fines pulled from drivers who did nothing wrong.
