New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson still hasn’t opened the bag containing the hat he wore when the team won its first NBA championship in decades back in June. He says he’s too afraid of what’s inside.
Brunson explained the situation on a recent episode of his podcast, “Roommates Show,” which he co-hosts with teammate Josh Hart.
“Mine is still not washed; it’s in the bag, and I’m afraid to open it,” Brunson said. “It smells terrible: Champagne, sweat, cigars, food, beer, tequila.”
The hat has sat sealed since the Knicks’ title celebration, exposed to whatever mix of fermentation that combination of liquids and sweat produces over months in an airtight bag.
Brunson has not said when, or if, he plans to open it.
