Country singer Jessie James Decker set off a debate online after posting video of herself spraying a bare foot that had landed on the armrest beside her during a flight.
In the clip, Decker is seen covering her nose before dousing the foot with some kind of spray. Text over the video read, “Someone’s foot smells so bad on the plane.”
She posed a direct question to her 4.4 million Instagram followers: “Before you come at me…What would you have done?”
The responses poured in fast. Many sided with Decker outright.
“The nerve of some people!”
“I’d do just what you did!!! Spray the stinky foot!!!”
One commenter went further, saying the offending passenger “should’ve been escorted off the plane.”
A user identifying as a former flight attendant backed a zero-tolerance approach to foot-on-armrest behavior: “As a past flight attendant, when I saw people put their feet on the arm rest. I immediately told them no, this isn’t their home. Respect the plane & people around you. That is so F in nasty. I would have smacked his foot with my elbow.”
Whose Foot Was It?
Not everyone was convinced the foot belonged to a stranger. Several followers speculated it actually belonged to Decker’s husband, Eric Decker, the former NFL wide receiver. The two married in 2013.
“Please tell me that’s Eric’s foot and not some random person’s foot!”
“I’m guessing that’s Eric’s foot? You are far too sweet to do that to a stranger…”
Another commenter wrote, “That better be your husband. I would’ve moved!” while someone else suggested the whole thing might be a bit between the couple: “You’re being silly, right? It’s your husband behind you.”
Decker never clarified whose foot it was.
Other followers offered their own alternative tactics for the situation, including tickling the foot, drawing on it with a marker, or faking a sneeze before spraying. Decker and Eric share four children: Vivianne, Eric Jr., Forrest and Denver.
