Speaker of the House Mike Johnson (R-LA) revealed last Tuesday that a vote will be held this week to potentially initiate a formal impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden.
This move follows the preliminary impeachment investigation launched by former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) in September.
To further support their case, House Republicans released an ‘Impeachment Inquiry Explainer’ video narrated by Rep. Jeff Van Drew on Tuesday.
The explainer outlines several key points, including evidence of millions in payments to the Bidens and Hunter Biden’s involvement on the board of Burisma despite alleged lack of qualifications.
It also highlights a disturbing WhatsApp message purportedly sent by Hunter Biden to a Chinese executive as well as the potential involvement Joe Biden had with the Ukrainian prosecutor’s firing amidst this controversy.
The release of this explainer serves as a response to Democrats who have downplayed the investigation’s significance or accused it of being politically motivated.
It is also an effort by House Republicans to streamline their grounds for inquiry and articulate their findings to the public ahead of what is expected to be a critical vote before Congress takes its month long break for the holidays.

With time quickly running out before the recess, Republican Rep. Ken Buck (R-CO) is the only GOP lawmaker who has publicly opposed a Biden impeachment vote scheduled to take place this week.
This decision by Rep. Buck places extra pressure on House Republicans to make a compelling case and navigate through the legal and political complexities of such an inquiry.
The Republican Party holds a slim 3-vote majority after several members of their party retired in 2021, with House Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-OH) noting that they are poised to maintain a precarious one-seat majority in the House for the 2024 session.
