Grand Jury Subpoenas Comey Adviser Daniel Richman in New Classified Leak Probe

A federal grand jury subpoenaed Daniel Richman, the longtime friend and adviser to former FBI Director James Comey, on Monday as part of a newly opened Justice Department investigation into whether Comey leaked classified information to the media, according to multiple law enforcement sources who spoke to Fox News Digital.

The subpoena points to a revived probe into a leak of classified material to the New York Times. The matter was investigated once before during President Donald Trump’s first term but stalled after Joe Biden took office.

This new investigation runs alongside a separate, ongoing case against Comey tied to alleged threats against Trump.

A Familiar Figure in the Original Leak Case

Richman, a law professor and Comey’s former attorney, was central to the original 2018 leak investigation. He later sued, alleging prosecutors violated his Fourth Amendment rights when they seized material from his electronic devices during 2019 and 2020 investigations. A federal judge in Washington, D.C. sided with Richman in that suit in December of last year.

Prosecutors had used those seized files to indict Comey on charges of making false statements and obstructing Congress, stemming from his 2020 testimony about FBI officials anonymously feeding information to reporters. That indictment accused Richman, a former special FBI employee, of communicating with journalists about the 2016 investigations into Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign.
