It is a well-known fact that the Democrats have an obsession with funneling money into green energy projects, regardless of their environmental impact. The latest example of this is the wind farm development taking place up and down the Atlantic coast.
Despite concerns that these wind farms could be causing the recent string of dead whales washing ashore, the Biden administration and its agencies are dismissing these concerns.
The National Marine Fisheries Service has called the recent whale strandings a Humpback Whale Unusual Mortality Event, which started in 2016.
The Marine Mammal Commission has stated that 40% of the examined whales showed evidence that they were struck by ships or entangled in fishing gear. These strandings are nothing new and are not isolated to the Atlantic coast. At least 10 humpback whales have stranded each year during the UME, with the highest number of 34 recorded in 2017.
While wind farm development is taking place up and down the Atlantic coast, agencies like the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and the U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management say there is no link between wind farms and the whale strandings. The Marine Mammal Commission has also stated that there is no evidence to link these strandings to offshore wind energy development.
However, some people are not buying the dismissal of wind farms when it comes to whale strandings.
Independent Women’s Forum Senior Fellow and District of Conservation Podcast Host Gabriella Hoffman told Fox News Digital that “the Biden administration is sowing distrust with the American public by instantly dismissing concerns that offshore wind development could be behind the whale deaths. Calling it misinformation or downplaying the concern is why people don’t trust them on the conservation front.”
Hoffman also mentioned that NOAA conceded that increased traffic from vessels because of wind farm construction could lead to more clashes between whales and boats.
She believes that a simple investigation by neutral parties is needed and that, should it reveal offshore wind is contributing to the whales’ demise, the White House should reconsider their goal of achieving 30 gigawatts of offshore wind by 2030.
It is clear that the Democrats’ obsession with green energy projects is causing more harm than good. The environmental impact of these projects needs to be thoroughly investigated before any more money is funneled into them. The Biden administration and its agencies need to start listening to concerned citizens like Hoffman, who have the whales’ best interests in mind.
