Pennsylvania Republican gubernatorial nominee Stacy Garrity is urging voters to break from the current administration ahead of Tuesday’s election, framing the race as a choice between sticking with Gov. Josh Shapiro (D) or taking the state in a new direction.
“We can continue down the same path, or we can choose a new direction that puts hardworking families, taxpayers, and our communities first,” Garrity wrote in a post on X. “I’m running to lower costs, deliver real property tax relief, create good-paying jobs, strengthen our schools, and make Pennsylvania a place where the next generation can build a future.”
Garrity, who currently serves as state Treasurer, is a retired Army Reserve Colonel who deployed three times to the Middle East, serving in Operation Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom, and Operation Enduring Freedom, according to her campaign website. The site also credits her with fighting corruption and returning a record amount of money to Pennsylvanians during her time in the private sector and as Treasurer.
Ahead of the election, Garrity campaigned in Mechanicsburg in Cumberland County, where she focused her message on small businesses, first responders, and veterans, according to WGAL News 8. She also addressed the fallout from the state’s removal of skill game machines from restaurants, bars, VFWs, and convenience stores, pointing to the revenue those machines had provided to first responders and veterans.
Garrity used the stop to go after Shapiro directly on the cost of living, telling the outlet that “everything is more expensive since he’s come into office.”
Shapiro, who beat Republican Doug Mastriano in November 2022, has drawn criticism from Rep. Scott Perry (R-PA) over his ambitions beyond Harrisburg. Perry told Breitbart News Daily that Shapiro has his sights set on the White House rather than on governing.
“He’s always just visioned, envisioned himself running for president, and then that’s what he’s gearing up for,” Perry said. “So, of course, he doesn’t want to have a even close showing here. … He’s pumping a pile of money into his own race, which he shouldn’t have. Hasn’t done anything, right? He hasn’t done anything as governor, but he’s plowing a bunch of money into his race to make sure that the numbers are pumped up so that he can make the case to run for president.”
Voters head to the polls Tuesday to decide the race between Garrity and Shapiro.
