Joe Biden said Monday that French President Emmanuel Macron had not been available to take his call offering congratulations for his reelection win. Biden explained that he had called, but had spoken to staff members. No one takes this guy’s calls… I swear.
“I tried to talk to [Macron] last night. We spoke with his staff, but he was uh, at the Eiffel Tower having a good time,” Biden told reporters on Monday.

So after Macron ignored his call to congratulate him on the win, Biden settled for a post on Twitter.
“Congratulations to @EmmanuelMacron on his re-election. France is our oldest ally and a key partner in addressing global challenges. I look forward to our continued close cooperation — including on supporting Ukraine, defending democracy, and countering climate change.”

“The irony,” tweeted writer Matthew Betley, “is that this is like that SNL skit where all the world leaders shunned Trump, but it’s happening to Biden by his own people in real life.”
He said during a speech while commissioning the commemoration ceremony of the USS Delaware on Saturday: “I’m deeply proud of the work she [Jill] is doing as First Lady with Joining Forces initiative she started with Michelle Obama when she was Vice President and now carries on.”
So their embarrassment is more than understandable…
